WWI Letters: Lawrence Vogel to his family


This letter was written by Lawrence Henry Vogel to his parents, Frank and Mary Schweir Vogel, and his brothers, Albert, Raymond, and Louis Vogel. Lawrence was born in Greensburg on 14 April 1896. During World War I, he served in France from September 1918 to June 1919 with the medical detachment of the 333rd Infantry. He married Bernadine Schoettmer at Millhousen on 22 April 1925. They had two sons, Joseph and Kenneth, and two daughters, Rose Marie (Carl) Wells and Roselyn (Leo) Westrick. Lawrence died in his Greensburg home at 119 West Fourth Street of a heart attack on 19 May 1960 at age 64. 


Lawrence's older brother, Pvt. Herman Vogel, died shortly before this letter was written.
