WWI Letters: William Maudlin to his mother



1 March 1918, Greensburg (Ind.) Standard

William Riley Maudlin was born 14 August 1897, the son of James Lewis and Louviccy Goddard Maudlin. He enlisted for service on 30 April 1917, and served in the Navy until 12 September 1918. Three of his brothers: James, Charles and Albert, also served in the war. When he returned home, William worked as a plumber in Greensburg, and he was elected to the city council in 1934, serving 3 terms. He married Annette Layton on 16 September 1920. She passed away on 15 July 1963, just a few months before William passed on 9 November 1963. William and Annette had five children: Howard, Mary, Richard, Edgar, and Donald.
